Novice Fleet - update Sept 2008

Hey peeps, Guess what? Hot off the press, great news! The junior and novice series is going to be continued, yeaaayyyyy. raise that glass to the committee!
Anyway it was a talking point last night and the decision is to continue the series as long as the weather and your enthusiasm holds out. So thank you all for your support, its you that have made this such a success because you said you would come and you did. Clap your hands, one two, three all jump up and shout hooray! Anyway with you in mind the story gets better your getting your own junior novice results page on the web site, so that you can go in and see your race results and were going to publish all of the newsletters on the site so you can read the back issues. Its worth remembering that the second training course and the junior course have not had the opportunity to get the time in on the water so this is another good reason to push out the series further.
The water will be busy for the next 3 weeks but as long as were organised its doable and we will need to use the sea hog as the committee boat because the cruiser will be in use. The thinking is that each week we can have a nominated OOD for you and that one of you acts as AOD, also that we have a safety boat manned by an experienced member and again with one of you acting as the safety crew. Part of the plan has always been to add an element of self sustainability to the series so hopefully on the day you can take turn each at this. If anyone wants to get their eye in then just approach whoever is down as OOD and they are very likely to take you out. (the exception is the Laser open as all the boats look the same and its a nightmare to be race OOD)
Ok so what's happening, well this Saturday Paul and Craig are up for running some spinnaker training, both asymmetric and normal, they will bring a video camera so we can watch how good we are (its a hoot honestly!!) So maybe Jan and Wendie? Richard and Judith? Rajan and Kate fancy a shot? Also you Jessica, you've got a kite all waiting to go, what say you? Anyone else interested? Jon, think you could spinnaker the Omega? (There fun in full flight!) Then next week we can look at maybe getting some of you out on a wire, trapeze that is, one of the 420's is rigged for this, following on from that it is really up to you, what do you want to know? Refresher on something we have done already or something that you have missed? burning questions of what you really feel that you need to know? Send me an e mail and we can share it with everyone. Anyone want to finally nail those two ents and get them out, sail an ent and for sure you will practice the 5 essentials, I could draw up a list of tasks and you could apply your collective skills. Sophie would welcome the competition as she has an Ent, was it the one on the water this weekend just gone? If not then that's a 5th boat out, fleet racing??
The thinking is also that we would like to give the juniors more time on the water too, at the weekend we had 11 children in the junior championship and another 4 on the water which is a pretty high number, keeping the series going, and you coming will also give the youngsters a chance to spend time in boats, maybe even get them out to the start line? The toppers were out in force in the Juniors, Eric and Elliott were loving it, and the oppies hit the water too, with Luke racing having sailed only once before 'ever', showing that it can be done.
For all you laser sailors, watch your backs, the juniors are gunning for you they are going to be out there practicing hard and your going to have some serious competition to contend with. If you have got a Laser (Olwyn) you'd better get it dusted off and start practicing whilst you've still got a chance to win.
If you could give me an idea of interest then that would be handy.
this weekend is normal format with Paul planning to be there around 10:30 ish bit of practice, then pm some novice racing for you.
Ok toot toot for now.
