Burton Sailing Club (BSC) have a proud history, dating back 120 years (founded 1902). Initially based on the river in Burton upon Trent, we now enjoy the excellent sailing facilities at Foremark reservoir amidst the dramatic Derbyshire countryside, in the heart of the National Forest.

The club is situated within easy reach of Derby, Nottingham, Burton, Leicester and Loughborough. The reservoir covers some 230 acres and is easily the best stretch of water available in the area for sailing.

We have a club membership of approximately 250 which includes ordinary, junior and family membership as well as group membership with scout groups and several local colleges/universities.

Club Facilities

The club has exclusive use of a clubhouse which includes a fully fitted galley, male and female changing rooms with hot showers. Wi-Fi, television and a well stocked bar with wet and dry lounge areas.

The clubhouse has excellent views over the reservoir from both inside and on the adjacent patio area. So whilst not sailing you can spectate in comfort, or merely just soak up the beauty of the surroundings. There is also a childrens' play area alongside clubhouse.

A short walk from the clubhouse is a large sheltered dinghy park with berths for approx 400 boats. The dinghy park is on a slight gradient leading down to a lawned rigging area and wide concrete slipway that extends well into the reservoir, making launching easy. There is also a long pontoon for mooring.

Towards the rear of the dinghy park you will find the modern club training centre which is used extensively during our training and coaching sessions.

Get Involved in Club Racing!

There is regular dinghy racing on Sundays and Wednesday evenings. The Sunday racing runs from March to December and the Wednesday racing from April to September. The club holds annual open events in most of the classes of dinghy sailed at the club. This year visiting classes include Laser, RS Aero, RS Tera, Flying Fifteen, Supernova, 505's, OK's as well as DYS intercounty events.

The club often hosts inland championships for various fleets from time to time. Junior club members actively participate in Derbyshire Youth Sailing (DYS).

The majority of the club racing is PY handicap based with a single start for all dinghies.  In addition class results are extracted out of these for the more popular classes at  the club. All abilities are welcome to join in the fun. We encourage those that have only just learnt to sail to join in too, with lots of friendly advice available for those that wish to improve their skills.

Varied non-sailing social events, held during the summer, aim to cater for all members, juniors and seniors alike.  There are also, "fun" sailing events of various types throughout the summer with the annual regatta being one of the highlights of the year.
