If you would like to find out more about our great club and some of the activities that we offer, please scroll through the tabs at the top of the page.

Whether racing, exploring places you wouldn't otherwise be able to see or just having a muck around out on the water, sailing can be a great way to get active.

Burton Sailing Club is ready and fully equiped to get you started, and if you decide to progress into racing, sailing can give one of the most comprehensive workouts around.

If relaxing is your thing, then sailing is the perfect way to experience tranquillity and freedom on the water.

You don't need to be fit to participate, as there are boats to cater for everyone. You don't even need to be a strong swimmer - although you should be comfortable with being in the water in a buoyancy aid.

Fast Answers
Why get into sailing? It's a sociable and fun way to relax, get fit and escape from your day-to-day worries and concerns.
Who is it for?

All ages and abilities. Whether you want to enjoy a relaxed cruise with the family or get a buzz from the thought of racing, there's something for all.

Is there a cheap option?

Whilst you can spend thousands of pounds on the latest high performance racing dinghies, small-boat sailing is one of the cheapest ways to get afloat. There are many 'starter boats' available for just a few hundred pounds to get you started. Low cost boat hire is also available to Burton Sailing club members. We have a selection of club boats from the 'Optimist' suitable for small children to 'Flying Fifteen' Keel boats suitable for 2-3 people available from just £10 per session.

What if I want a proper workout? Many disciplines, such as windsurfing and dinghy racing in a good breeze, require an extreme level of physicality.
Can I take it to another level? We offer a regular programme of club racing if you fancy competing. We also have a number of travelling sailors that travel around the country and even to other parts of the world to compete in regional, national and international events.
Is there a disability option? Whilst we are currently only able to provide facilities for able bodied sailors, sailing is one of the very few sports in which able-bodied and disabled sailors can participate on equal terms. Look for clubs offering 'Sailablity' in your local area.
Is there a family option? You could sign up to a family sailing course and learn the skills together. We also offer discounts for family group membership
